i’m still mad about tiger king… you have a documentary that showcased horrific abuse of humans and animals by two genuinely awful people and then brushed both of those people off as ‘lol quirky weirdos’ to use misleading information and half-truths to demonize a woman who was very obviously in the right in that situation and who had just been a victim of attempted murder

i’ve noticed people are maybe hesitant to call the carole baskin stuff misogyny and IMO it very blatantly is. it’s a pretty good example, i think, of how even the most privileged subclasses of women still experience forms of discrimination, demonization, and violence that their male counterparts wouldn’t. (though, of course, not everyone experiences it on the same levels or in the same way) 

like, she was not only demonized and placed as the subject of extremely misleading speculation, but also the documentary tacitly dismissed and then engendered further harassment against her. whether this was by making her and everything she’d experienced seem like a joke, by glossing over and in some cases deliberately failing to portray the full horrors the other people in the documentary committed in order to make more time for misleading amateur true crime work, or by deliberately taking things out of context to frame her as a worse person than she was (look up the filmmakers visiting her sanctuary on the day of an annual special event and neglecting to mention that it was such in order to make it seem more crowded than it really was for a good example of this), it’s IMO a really good example of how some people will jump to demonize women even though there blatantly were some very awful people in that documentary and they were sexual abusers and animal abusers. and not only all that, but how the internet treated her for months after the documentary came out, and to some extent still do, is just so absolutely terrible (and very very clearly misogynistic) that i’m still mad about it lol
