fun fact fungi are more closely related to animals than plants and ive been told this is why its harder for us to fight off fungal infections (because apparently its harder for our cells to recognize it as foreign DNA) 

i think about that a lot

BUT on the other hand, fun fact, a huge percentage of the coal on our planet today is made from the compressed remains of a few singular prehistoric tree species. after a certain point in the fossil record, coal stops being produced by a significant amount because fungi evolved enough to eat the dead trees before they could be compressed into coal. we would be buried in dead things if not for fungi and like….idk i think about that a lot too 

but BUT on the OTHER hand, in plant pathology lab last semester we germinated common white rot (ironically the same stuff that evolved to eat the trees) on petri dishes for study. my professor sealed them with parafilm instead of with the top of the dishes themselves and it turns out that if u let it grow in there for more than three days the fungus pushes off the top of the petri dish and starts spewing spores out and contaminating other samples and like, as someone with OCD that I’ve had all my life, like, i can handle a lot of stuff and have come a long way thanks to therapy and meds. hell in the past couple years i’ve handled and grown e-coli on petri dishes, made bacterial and fungal swabs, cut into rotting fruit for samples, just really put myself out there doing things….like, im proud of myself man, but The Fungus Escaping??? Escaping and just doing That??? Reproducing?? Reproducing Without My Permission?? like thats just Big Fear man…that’s too damn much…Hm Dont Like That…..she can stay in the petri dish like im fine….just…..stay in the fungus arena pls
